Rex is a licensed Structural Engineer in California with over 18 years of experience in design, retrofit, and inspection of new and existing construction. With an aptitude for math and science and an interest in architecture and design, and at the urging of his high school drafting teacher, Rex attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he received a Bachelor of Science in architectural engineering.
While he has worked extensively with cold-formed steel to design interior and exterior walls for hospitals, residential, commercial, and mixed-use buildings, he also has a strong background in analysis and design utilizing wood, structural steel, and reinforced concrete. Outside of the office, he volunteers as a youth photography mentor, where he shares his passion for the art of visual storytelling.
For Rex, graphic arts and structural engineering require the same attention to detail in order to clearly communicate your message. This “devil’s in the details” mentality has guided his work in both photography and structural engineering.
Rex enjoys looking at the SF skyline, where he can see the rooftop structures and exterior cladding on many of the buildings he has worked on in his career, with his favorite being 181 Fremont.
A Few Projects of Note:
- Exterior and interior metal stud framing to support interior and exterior finishes at Stanford Hospital and California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.
- Exterior metal stud framing and interior metal stud framing, including the design of the pods at Google Bayview and Charleston East Campuses in Mountain View.
- Laguna Summit Apartments in Laguna Niguel (now Vista at Laguna Apartments), where the scope included the repair of buildings that were evacuated due to damage caused by underground soil and hillside movement. A system of deep piers and grade beams with tiebacks was designed to stabilize the slope, allowing the apartments to reopen.
