About Us

Murphy Burr Curry, Inc. (MBC) was founded in 1997 by David Murphy, Alan Burr, and Steve Curry. Having previously worked together at Peter Culley & Associates (now Holmes Culley), David, Alan, and Steve had a shared vision to establish a boutique firm in San Francisco, CA that was dedicated to creating innovative, imaginative, appropriate, and cost-effective structural design solutions that would meet – and exceed! – client expectations. Now, nearly 30 years later, the firm continues to be a strong partner for clients, offering a practical approach to the complex world of structural engineering design. MBC is currently led by Alan Burr, Steve Curry, Zack Kardon, and Alex Filatov.

Mission, Vision, & Values

Our Mission: To be committed as a client-first advisor with solution-driven expertise.
Our Vision: To be the first choice for clients, partners, and our staff in a trustworthy, respectful, and responsive manner.
Our Values: We value PEOPLE, integrity, commitment, diversity, collaboration, and we are solution-oriented.

What We Do

MBC provides a full range of structural engineering consultation for commercial, private, and public developments. Our highly experienced team engages with property owners, architects, and contractors to deliver unique structural engineering solutions for both the design and construction of new buildings and the rehabilitation of existing ones. We also provide consulting services that include due diligence and evaluation of existing structures. The intrinsic value of our client-first approach and commitment to approaching each project as a partnership is continually reflected in the fact that most of our workload is still based on referrals and repeat business.

Our Expertise

Over the years, our firm has specialized in historic renovation, seismic retrofit, and new building design and continues to be recognized as a leader in evaluating buildings damaged by natural disasters (such as major earthquakes, fires, and storms) and providing seismic upgrades to existing structures. View our Project Portfolio to see current and past projects, which encompass the creation or expansion of retail and commercial spaces, residential structures, medical facilities, and academic institutions, and (largely due to our location here in San Francisco) the renovation of many historic buildings of all types and sizes. We are proud to have completed well over 1,000 successful projects in locations throughout the United States.
