James is beginning his structural engineering career with a strong interest in seismic design and building safety. He was drawn to structural engineering by the opportunity to see designs progress from calculations and drawings into completed structures. He particularly enjoys the challenge of creating buildings that are both functional and resilient during earthquakes.

Through his academic work, James has gained experience designing with steel, reinforced concrete, and wood, with steel being the material with which he is most familiar. As he begins working on professional projects, he looks forward to gaining experience across a variety of building types and further developing his interests within structural engineering, particularly in seismic analysis and design.

James approaches his work with organization, accountability, and attention to detail. He strives to complete the aspects of a project within his control on schedule and within budget while producing accurate, thoughtful engineering solutions. James earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Irvine, and holds an Engineer-in-Training certification.
