Location – Diablo, CA
Architect – Hornberger + Worstell

MBC provided Structural Engineering services for seismic improvements, alterations, and remodeling of the existing historic (1912) two-story wood-frame Diablo Country Club Clubhouse building located at 1700 Clubhouse Road in Diablo, California. The project was completed in 2024.

Diablo Country Club’s goal was to renovate and expand the property to accommodate all aspects of their operations and reconfigure the premises to better respond to their members’ needs.

The seismic improvements were designed to meet the Exception requirements in Section 503.4 of the California Existing Building Code to stay below the 10% threshold for the Demand-Capacity changes in the existing shear wall system. The new shear walls replaced the existing demolished shear walls in locations that allowed the overall seismic load capacity to match the original capacity, with little to no change in the Demand-Capacity Ratio, and were provided with new foundations and holdown anchors.
