Martin Cortez, S.E.

Project Manager / Senior Structural Engineer

Martin approaches engineering and life with a similar mentality: stay calm and relaxed while focusing on solutions and building relationships.

“As engineers, we are problem solvers; if there were no problems during construction, there would be no need for engineers.” Guided by this dedication to problem-solving, Martin also believes that engineering should be people-centric at all times. Whether it’s the future inhabitants of our buildings, the owner/client, or fellow design professionals/consultants, the relationships we build are what make our industry special.

Martin has been working in structural engineering for over 10 years with experience in high-end residential, commercial, K-12, and higher education retrofits and new construction along the West Coast. Since joining Murphy Burr Curry, he has worked on multiple seismic retrofit projects, small and large tenant improvements, new construction, and façade inspections.

Outside of work, Martin enjoys traveling to learn from other cultures, trying new cuisines (especially spicy ones), and discovering new drinks. He also enjoys reading books as well as playing sports and spending time with friends and family. If you have great food or book recommendations, do send them his way.
