Barry Wenger joined Murphy Burr Curry, Inc. (MBC) in 2011. As a Bay Area native, Barry has enjoyed being able to utilize his engineering skills to revitalize many of the city’s landmark buildings during his time with the firm.
Prior to joining MBC, Barry began his professional engineering career with Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA) in Seattle, WA and also has experience as an instructor for numerous college level engineering courses. He earned a master’s degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Washington and a BS with honors in Civil Engineering with Structural Emphasis from the University of California, Davis. Barry is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) and is involved with their long-term mentorship program.
Barry is a licensed Structural Engineer in California and a licensed Civil Engineer in Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and California. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional with a specialization in Building Design and Construction (LEED AP BD+C). Some of Barry’s most notable projects and recent experience include:
- A strong background in retail tenant improvement projects, including flagship store designs for Tiffany & Co. and Uniqlo. Additionally, he has completed retail projects including Gucci, Chanel, YSL, Montblanc, and Allbirds, as well as over a dozen boutiques for Nespresso. Barry has also completed retail warm shell projects for Bay Street Emeryville and Serramonte Center (Daly City).
- Seismic evaluations, retrofits, and new construction for several public schools, including SFUSD Garfield Elementary, Junipero Serra Elementary, Roosevelt Middle, and Emeryville Center of Community Life. Private school projects include a new classroom building as well as seismic evaluation and retrofit of existing buildings at Redwood Day School, The Urban School of San Francisco, and The Bay School of San Francisco.
- Tenant improvements for office spaces for clients including Airbnb, Google, GM Cruise, Symantec, and Stanford University School of Medicine. Additionally, Barry has completed office core and shell projects at 888 Brannan St. (SF), 2 Henry Adams St. (SF), and 1201 Bryant St. (SF).
- Multifamily housing projects, including Broadstone Axis (Oakland), L Seven Apartments (350 Eighth St.), 2198 Market St., 2175 Market St., and several projects at Hunters Point. Affordable housing projects, including Block B and Block X of San Francisco’s Potrero Hill Rebuild.
- Several seismic evaluations and brewery improvements for Anchor Brewing Company.
