The relocation of Pac-12's headquarters from Walnut Creek to downtown San Francisco had to be seamless and efficient, with a hard deadline of the start of the 2012/2013 collegiate season. Complicating matters: Two floors of the building needed to house Pac-12's two recording studios and support other broadcast and programming needs. The solution? Murphy Burr Curry, Inc. designed two two-story space to house the broadcast studios within the existing office building, strengthened the 2nd and 3rd floors to support their massive server and mechanical rooms, and created rooftop support for eight 4.5-meter-diameter satellite dishes. The existing floors were strengthened with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) strips to maximize floor space. FRP strips were also used to reinforce the existing floor diaphragm and support the new floor openings for the broadcast studios.
