The Workday office space is on the 17th and 18th floors of an existing 20 story steel moment frame building with views of the new Transbay Terminal to the west and the Bay Bridge to the east. In order to join the 17th and 18th floor spaces the client requested a new communicating stair and, in keeping with the spirit of their work place, a slide for good measure. Murphy Burr Curry worked with the architectural team to design the structural steel for the stair, slide, and railings. As well MBC developed and monitored the construction sequencing which included maintaining stable bracing for the existing exterior cladding and moment frame while the new stair opening was cut into the 18th floor slab.
